What Makes CrossFit Wreckage Different?

CrossFit is all about not specializing in one particular area of fitness. Instead, CrossFit encompasses all areas of fitness, including; Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, endurance training, plyometric training, kettlebell training, and pretty much any other area of fitness you can imagine. If you are tired of going to the gym and doing the same routine of weights and then hopping on a treadmill, then come to CrossFit Wreckage. Its hard to get bored with CrossFit workouts, because unless you are preforming a benchmark WOD, you probably won’t do the same workout more than once. CrossFit is constantly varying fitness that utilizes functional movements that can be found in everyday activities.
Our Box may not look like a traditional gym, and that is on purpose. We do not utilize “machines” that are seen in most large gyms. That is because “You” are the machine. It doesn’t matter if you are an elite athlete preparing for the CrossFit Games, or someone who can’t even remember the last time they worked out. CrossFit is for everyone. We will teach you what you need to know to meet you fitness goals, and we can scale any of our workouts to accommodate your fitness level. That being said; come to CrossFit Wreckage if you want lose weight, come if you want to have the highest fitness level you’ve ever had, and most importantly come prepared to work. CrossFit is all about hard work, sense of community, and doing what you thought your body could never do.

    I have been active and into sports since I was a kid. It began with wrestling, and just escalated. I loved the challenge of wrestling and the competition that it provided. Throughout college and beyond I remained into fitness and being active. However, that all changed when I discovered CrossFit in 2009. CrossFit provided a whole new level of fitness and pushed me further than I thought my body was capable of. I love the workouts, I love the competition aspect of doing a WOD in a group, and I love the feeling of knowing I gave it all I had. CrossFit has certainly put me in the best shape of my life. I believe in CrossFit so much that I decided to open up my own CrossFit Box, enter CrossFit Wreckage.

    I have lived in Charlotte my whole life and graduated from UNCC in 2004. I was immediately hired onto the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and still remain with them. I am currently assigned to the training division of the police department where I train defensive tactics and physical training full time. I have a beautiful wife that does CrossFit as well, and baby girl that will do CrossFit when she gets old enough. It is nice to have something that your family can share with you. CrossFit is a passion of mine, so it only seemed natural to have my own CrossFit Box to share my passion with others. Hope you enjoy!

    Hi! I’m Jesika Griswold, one of many amazing coaches here at Crossfit Wreckage. I started my athletic career in high school as a varsity cheerleader and moved onto running in college. Now as a mother of two, I had tried many workouts like P90X and Insanity and I grew bored of it after awhile. I needed something more. Something different, not too time consuming and somewhere I could take my children with me. That’s when I found Crossfit Wreckage and stumbled upon the best community of people I had ever met.

    After my first workout I knew Crossfit Wreckage was the place for me. I loved the constantly changing workouts and all the help and support I received from the coaches. I was getting stronger, feeling better, losing fat, gaining muscle and had made more friends than I could count. The more skills I learned the more I wanted to help out my fellow athletes. I knew then that I wanted to coach, and Billy being the awesome box owner he is, pushed me to get my certification. It was the best decision that I could have made.

    As a coach I love seeing all of our athletes reach new goals and do things they never thought they could. Pushing themselves hard because their friends are cheering them on. I feel lucky to get to coach at a box with such driven athletes that leave it all on the floor, every workout. When they say Crossfit is a lifestyle, it’s true. The physical demand is only part of what Crossfit community is about. It’s a built in support system of people that have the same goal as you, “to be better”, and they truly want you to succeed.

    My husband and I Crossfit together, and our two girls are well on the path to being future crossfitters. They love coming to the gym with us to see all of their “best friends”. As parents we should set good examples for our children, and what better example than fitness?

    I’m Miranda Etter and I’m the other owner of CrossFit Wreckage. Billy and I are so happy to have such a great box up and running. I have been doing CrossFit for about 4 years now and absolutely love it. There is such a strong sense of community that goes along with it, and you will make plenty of new friends. Not to mention the fact that CrossFit will get you in the best shape of your life. I was bored with just doing normal gym routines and getting on a treadmill, but you don’t get that at CrossFit Wreckage. Every day is a new workout that is constantly challenging you, and pushing you past the limits you thought your body was capable of.     I’m Jesse Whitley and I primarily coach the morning classes. I have been at CrossFit Wreckage for well over a year now and love it. I’m like most of your other CrossFit stories in the sense that I used to do traditional lifting. You know, Mondays was arms, Tuesdays was Chest…etc… Then I found CrossFit and thought……Man, that is the way to go. I’m in the best shape I have ever been in because of CrossFit, even better than when I was playing high school sports. CrossFit is challenging, exciting, and fun. It is also a family affair for me too since my wife is a member at Wreckage and my children are in the CrossFit Wreckage Kids classes. So come on by and try it out, I promise you will love it.

    Growing up I was involved in a lot of sports, including swimming, diving, softball, soccer, and tennis. After high school, I trained for a two half marathons. I felt a sense of accomplishment in that, but not enough to make me continue that path. I stepped into my first Crossfit box in 2013 and haven’t stopped since! I finally found something that is challenging but also fun. With every goal I accomplish, I set more goals for myself to reach. My favorite thing about Crossfit is that I see results every week, whether it’s improved time on a benchmark WOD, or increased strength, or progression on a skill.

    I am still new to coaching, but I am loving it! My goals as a coach are to help other athletes achieve the results they are looking for. Crossfit Wreckage truly is one big family, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else!

  • SCOTT JABLONKA

    I am currently a practicing orthopedic Physical Therapist with a passion for human performance and movement. I enjoy analyzing mechanics and movement patterns to help an athlete perform at their full potential. I believe that most everyone would benefit from proper functional movement at intensities that is most appropriate for that particular individual. Our bodies are made to move and I love finding out what our bodies are capable of accomplishing.

    I’ve been a team sport athlete my entire life with a niche is soccer. I played through high school and college before real life started and I shifted my fitness toward triathlons. After a few Olympic distance races and a Half Ironman, I was getting tired of training alone. I stepped into my first Crossfit class to try something new. After suffering through my first workout, I was instantly hooked. The physical and mental toughness, the encouragement, the challenge, I knew this sport was made for people like me.

  • EMILY MAHAR JABLONKA

    All my life I have been involved in some form of athletics. From karate, to lacrosse, track and soccer, I tried it all. My passion has always been soccer, and I was fortunate enough to play alongside some of the best teammates at Clarkson University in my home state of New York. After graduating, I joined a couple coed teams to fuel my fire for competitive sports. As the years passed and 6 knee surgeries later, I decided to join my now-husband at my first Crossfit class in October of 2013, and I have been hooked ever since! My void of camaraderie, teamwork and competitive edge was immediately fulfilled. Month after month I became stronger than I had ever been throughout 26 years of competitive soccer. My husband and I loved Crossfit so much, we decided to get our Level 1 Certifications in September 2014, and coached at a box in Syracuse, NY before moving to the Charlotte area a year later. Thanks to Billy and the wonderful family at Crossfit Wreckage, we have found a new place to call home. My goal is to welcome every person that steps through our doors into the Wreckage family, and help you become stronger every day!

    Hi All! My name is Steven Ray Todd, one of the coaches on the amazing team at CrossFit Wreckage. Professionally, I’m currently a Customer Service Manager at Charlotte Douglas Airport for American Airlines. I’m a graduate in Aeronautics from both Guilford Technical Community College and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. My passion is aviation but I’ve always been an athlete, which started at a very young age.

    My athletic background started at age 5 where I played baseball. I played year around through the end of high school where I decided to leave the sport to pursue my career in aviation. Although I left the game, the athlete part of me never went away. I decided in college to pursue my personal goal of being a lifeguard. I ended up getting my certification and worked at a YMCA in Greensboro for several years. During those years, I also taught water aerobics and was a swim instructor for kids from pre-school through elementary school.

    After college, I ended up moving to Phoenix, AZ to work for US Airways Express. Everyday, I passed CrossFit Mesa and yearned to try it and be part of the sport. It wasn’t until 2013 when I moved back to Charlotte with US Airways that I finally decided to give CrossFit a try. Once I walked into CrossFit Wreckage, I never looked back.

    In 2015, I decided that I wanted to further my athletic career and be a CrossFit Trainer. After a lot of encouragement and support from my beautiful fiancée Michelle and fellow coaches, I went through the necessary requirements to become a CrossFit Level One Trainer. Being a person that loves coaching and helping people become better, it was truly the best decision I have ever made.

    CrossFit Wreckage is filled with the most amazing people and families you will ever meet. The atmosphere is truly addictive and workouts even more so. CrossFit is an amazing sport that will help you in every aspect of life outside the gym.

    Sometimes your truly don’t realize how good or how fit you can become until you go out and give it a try!

  • Andrew Chavous

    My name is Andrew Chavous, and I have been doing CrossFit since July 2015. As a NCAA Division 1 track athlete, I love pushing myself and the thrill of competition and wanted to continue that post graduation. I was extremely lucky to stumble upon CrossFit Wreckage on a Google search after moving to Charlotte, and the rest is history. The basis of functional fitness behind CrossFit was immediately appealing, and the workout programming and family at Wreckage was the icing on the cake. You don't have to be in the best shape of your life the first day you walk in the gym; but I guarantee that if you put in the consistent work, you will be by the time you walk out!
